History

I can train your dog from November through April in the north Tampa/Pasco County area and in May through October in the western Maine/Bridgton area.

Specializing in large breed family dogs, obedience, and service dogs.

Does your dog have habits that irritate you? Would your life be more peaceful if your dog followed your instructions? Each of us has a tolerance level, but most would prefer a dog in whose behavior we can take pride. I would like to help you achieve that (and more).

Although I will come to your home, I prefer a program of Board and Train, meaning your dog lives in my home for approximately two weeks, depending on the skills you want taught. This training is guaranteed, meaning that if you are not satisfied, the dog may come back for more training at no additional cost to you. Of course, you must maintain the training when you take the dog home; when you pick up the dog, I will teach you exactly how to do that.

My method is built on the Dog Whisperer theories: exercise, behavior, and then reward. I use the ForceFree/E-Touch™ method, and intuitive system of training that makes sense to both people and dogs. Effective and gentle, the training method works with the dog's instincts rather than against them. Very quickly, your dog will achieve reliability off leash with distractions.

Most dogs perceive the training as simple pack cooperation and play. So they give up their rebellious behavior and give the handler additional focus that you may have been unable to achieve. Doesn't that sound like more fun than collar jerks and yelling at the dog?

Your dog will learn to:

  • Pay attention to you consistently
  • Come when called every time
  • Sit and down, with stays for both
  • Walk on a loose leash
  • Behave nicely around guests and strangers
  • Eliminate unwanted barking, whining, and chewing

You may add as many more as you choose: specific obedience competition behaviors, physical assist and/or hearing assist behaviors, etc. Those will, of course, add to my time and your cost.

About me: Donna Canfield

I have been breeding and training dogs for over twenty-five years, as well as showing, doing therapy work, and training service dogs.

I live with an eight year old purebred Chinook and her year old daughter who help immensely by modeling appropriate behaviors.

I have studied with numerous trainers over the years. The best known include Margot Woods (Laurel, MD), Martin Deeley (Montverde, FL), and Marc Goldberg (Chicago, IL). In addition, I am in touch with trainers all over the country who discuss discipline issues daily so I learn continuously, a life-long habit I developed teaching. I am a Communications Professor Emeritus at Howard Community College in Columbia, MD.
